Ok, so I was leaving the soccerplex last night around midnight after a late match. I was driving home and was at this exact location (click) a motorcycle rider crossed the yellow line, swerved and lost his rear traction. He grounded the bike and skidded in the truck!
I am like freaking out thinking that I have a motorcycle pinned under my truck and the guy is dead or paralysed. The truck is still moving and the motorcycle apparently just hit my tire and spun off behind me. I pulled over, jumped out and ran over to the guy who was already off his bike and walking around. I was relieved when I saw this. He was calm or in shock and was pulling the bike out of the road. I wish I had a camera or I would have taken a picture of the bike. Here is a fake video of sorta what the accident looked like. (Click the image)

Ok, so he’s ok then. He was a nice guy. Wearing full protective gear and not injured. He was shook up a little. He was on his cell phone and he told me he called the cops. I went to check on my truck. It was just the rear tire. It was shredded as you can see below.

A lot of people were driving by asking if we were ok. I called AAA to send a wrecker for the truck since I didn’t want to drive it. The guy called his friends because he had no one to take him home. The police hadn’t shown up yet. He then tells me his friends didn’t know where he was, which is believeable since it’s an industrial park, and he was going to go up to the corner to meet them near where the highway was. (google map).
So he walked up the street. I was hanging out waiting for the cops and the tow truck and my friend Ken was leaving the sportsplex and saw the scene and hung out for awhile. The guy was still gone which concerned me and the cops hadn’t shown up yet so I called them. They told me no one called and seemed concerned that it was involving a motorcycle. While I was still on the phone with the dispatcher the fire dept showed up and started asking where the guy was? I told them he went that way and they drove off looking for him. Ok, something is wrong here.
The guy was very calm and collected when I talked to him. He gave me no indication that he was a flight risk. He said he was going to meet his friend and come back. The cops showed up a few minutes later and from what I was told were treating it as a hit and run and stolen bike. They had police everywhere. They were patrolling the highway, backroads, you name it. It was a slow night in Fairfax so it’s nice to know that they respond as fast as they did. The officer asked me some questions and got a description which is pretty useless. A 5’5 black maile, short hair with biking gear on.
They actually had a helicopter looking for him. He left his helmet behind which was used by the tracking dog to get a scent and it apparently lead to the highway onramp. They didn’t find the guy.

The cops were all cool. I told them it was probably lucky that I didn’t start getting too suspicous or confront the guy because he could have shot or stabbed or tried to injure me. However, he would recieve a beatdown because I just got done with soccer and I had a good 75lb weight advantage and he was wearing cumbersome riding gear.
So the truck needs a new tire. I need to get the police report tomorrow for insurance purposes if there is any damage to the truck and there is a bike theif on the loose. I feel bad for the owner of the bike though. The bike was totalled.
So if you want to get a solid vehicle get a land rover discovery. They can take a hit at 35mph on a motorcycle and just have a tire pop.
